Twice Exceptional Learners
Twice exceptional is a term used to describe a child who presents with both gifted abilities and also specific learning difficulties. These children often are not recognised for their giftedness as their learning difficulties tend to mask their true potential.
Pro Ed recognises the importance of identifying your gifted child, as there is a possibility that he or she may begin to struggle with each passing school year as the work becomes more demanding. This can result in the child under-achieving and even failing school. Teachers may assume that these children are simply lazy and once labelled as such, your gifted children can develop further behavioural problems. This can have implications for your child’s self-esteem and ability to reach their true potential.
